Marketing Success 101: Effective Email Marketing for Your Online Auction

When conducting an online auction, it is important to maintain constant communication with bidders to keep them up-to-date on how the auction is progressing and to get them excited about bidding competitively. Email marketing is one of the best ways to engage your audience. Here are some tips to make the best of your email marketing campaign:

Make emails relevant to current events or occasions.

  • If you are sending out an email close to a holiday, encourage your audience to bid for the occasion. For instance, if you are sending out an email near Christmas use a headline such as .Get a Head Start on Your Christmas Shopping While Supporting Your Community..
  • Take advantage of the weather with a headline like .Prepare for the Snow – Bid on Some Cold Weather Gear..
  • I bet you didn.t know that September is Chili Peppers and Figs month. Random holidays also offer unique and interesting opportunities for your auction promotion. Find a list of random holidays at: http://www.brownielocks.com/september.html .

Use of your social media profiles. Encourage your Facebook friends and Twitter followers to sign up for your email newsletter updates to receive exclusive offers and stay connected.

Consider mobile readers. Mobile devices (smart phones, tablets) are used with increasing frequency for email. Because only the first line of email text is displayed as a preview on a mobile device your first words must contain compelling information or strong call-to-action.

Be careful about filling up inboxes. There is a fine line between being persistent and spamming your audience. Just because someone has opted into your mailing list does not mean they want emails from you every day. Be aware of how many emails you are sending, if you see a large number of .unsubscribes. with each email you send, consider reducing the frequency.

Analyze your campaign data. After each email is sent, look at the message .open. rate and how many clicked on a link within the email. Keep track of the data from different campaigns, this will allow you to determine what information is impactful as well as if there are certain days and times that offer greater success.

We hope these tips help you with your next email campaign. As always, happy bidding!
